That’s Nick. About halfway through our trip to France this year. That trip. That crazy trip with Zak and Sam and bicycles and an insane dream. The trip that came after months of rejected visa applications and strange detours.

A journey halfway across the world. One purpose – to race up Alpe d’Huez. The fabled mountain. The one cyclists speak of with such awe. Zakayo won on his first attempt. Samwel came in third.

Nick stood by the side of the road, shouting, cajoling and cheering along with dozens of other people who just had to stop. And watch. Zak and Sam were a sight to behold. Two skinny Kenyans with huge ambitions and a strange way of riding. One day, after a race, the guy who finished second came up to Zakayo and just stared. Zak had done it all wrong, and won. Hard to imagine what it would have been like if he knew how to do it right.

So now, the project’s taking a new twist. The guys have proven they have the talent, now the real training begins. We are leaving for Kenya tomorrow. We can’t wait to document it all. What better way to kick-start the new year? With a brand new adventure. A brand new chapter in a story that just has to be told.

Happy 2009, everyone. May all your dreams come true in the new year.
